Korean Painting: Drawing Plum Blossom and Landscape (English spoken)

Thursday from 15:30-18:00 h

For whom
All levels welcome (minimum age: 17)

Content
Korean painting is a treasure of symbolism, philosophy, and artistic mastery, capturing the essence of nature and the changing seasons with elegant brushwork. At the heart of this tradition lies Sagunja—the Four Scholars—four iconic plants that embody both artistic discipline and deeper meaning.

In this course, we begin our journey with the plum blossom, a timeless subject celebrated for its resilience, beauty, and poetic significance. Originally rooted in the calligraphic traditions of scholars, Sagunja paintings reflect both the spirit of nature and the refinement of artistic practice. By studying the plum blossom, you will not only develop essential brush techniques but also gain insight into the delicate balance of composition, ink flow, and expressive line work.
Building on this foundation, we will take our practice further by painting a landscape featuring plum blossoms. This step allows us to explore how the delicate blossoms interact with trees, rocks, and flowing scenery, creating a composition that embodies both strength and elegance. Through this, you will learn to harmonize individual elements into a cohesive and evocative scene, deepening your understanding of traditional Korean aesthetics. Whether you are new to this art form or have prior experience, this class will deepen your appreciation and skill, allowing you to bring nature to life with each brushstroke.

Join us and immerse yourself in the poetic beauty of Korean painting!
