Student Assistant to assist the project Making up Migrants / Disabilities – 0,2fte / six months

Are you excited to contribute to ongoing research on the making up of migrants / disabilities? Have you learned how to carry out a literature study? Then we are looking for you!

What you will do

As a Student Assistant, you will contribute to our explorative research project on the synergies between migration and disability studies. Concretely, you will be asked to assist in our literature review and the creation of an annotated bibliography. You will also be asked to assist in the organization of our events.

About the project

In Making up Migrants / Disabilities The pasts, presents, and futures of human classifying’ we come together as scholars and practitioners across disciplines to critically investigate the formal and informal processes by which people are made and remade as specific kinds of migrants/disabled people. Our aim is to denaturalize human-made classifications, to explore common grounds, and grow new projects, with the ultimate aim of contributing to both migrant and disability justice. In January 2025, we will host our first workshop. In the months thereafter, we will draw on insights gained there to develop an annotated bibliography, and literature study.

You

  • Are a bachelors/masters student at Leiden, either in the social sciences, history, or law school.
  • Well-organized, work pro-actively, and, if need be, independently.
  • Have experience, or at least learned how to carry out a literature study.
  • Are interested in questions of migrant and disability justice.

Terms and Conditions

In addition, we offer you:

  • An employment contract for the duration of 6 months. The agreement falls under the collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities;
  • We offer a 0,2 fte position (7,6 hours per week) starting mid-January 2025. The salary ranges from € 2.922,- gross per month for a BA3 student to € 2.951,- gross per month for an MA student, based on fulltime employment, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
  • Holiday allowance (8%), an end-of-year bonus (8.3%) and an attractive pension scheme with ABP;
  • Flexible working hours: as standard, you have at least 29 vacation days with a full-time working week of 38 hours; you can also build up additional leave by, for example, working full-time 40 hours per week and thus building up 96 additional leave hours or by handing in 96 leave hours and working a 38-hour working week;
  • Wide choice of secondary employment conditions; for example, it is negotiable to opt for a sabbatical or paid parental leave. Within our choice model employment conditions, days off and/or salary can be used for, for example, a favorable sports subscription, bicycle arrangement and there are possibilities for childcare ;
  • If the work allows it, hybrid working within the Netherlands is possible;
