‘Bekijk talen in hun onderlinge samenhang’. Dat is de boodschap van professor en arabist Beatrice Gründler, die op 8 februari een eredoctoraat van de Universiteit Leiden krijgt. ‘Ik wil mensen laten zien dat de Arabische geschiedenis een duidelijk verband heeft met Europa.’

In het Regionaal Archief Alkmaar is een bijzondere vondst gedaan: in een aantal zeventiende-eeuwse boekbanden zaten stukjes perkament van een handschrift uit de elfde eeuw. Het handschrift behoorde mogelijk toe aan een prinses die Engeland ontvluchtte na de Normandische verovering van 1066.
